Where We Began
On Mother’s Day 1981, Shades of Green opened its doors as a small neighborhood
nursery. In the years since we have undergone many changes. The nursery has
grown and evolved into a beautiful garden-like setting with brick walkways, cedar arbors,
and unique structures throughout.
We are a full-line nursery and specialize in plants that are native and adapted to the
South Texas area. Our selection of colorful annuals, perennials, and tropicals is exceptional
as are our assortments of ‘own-root’ roses, houseplants, succulents, herbs, and vegetables. We carry
a complete selection of shrubs and trees as well.
Through the years we have filled our Gift Shop with garden-related accessories, gifts, books, and tools that are unique and uncommon. Whether you are shopping for gifts or plants, you will find that we maintain high quality standards in all of our merchandise.
Early on we realized the dangers of using the toxic products so prevalent in our industry and are now a leader in promoting the organic method of gardening. We carry a complete selection of natural products, from fertilizers and soil conditioners to beneficial insects and microbial stimulants.
